Collection metadata proposal and queries
Proposal: Collection metadata
Hi @lathrops1
From our discussion about #142 (closed), I am raising separate issues to confirm approach and deal with queries.
- For all workflows, there is no source doc for the collection metadata. Users must add metadata via the UI, therefore collection metadata is always editable.
- Fields that require styling use the Wax editor. The styling possibilities are agreed in #223 (closed).

andnotes
may only be simple.
Fields that require styling
Metadata filed | Styling required |
---|---|
abstract | bold, italic, underline, hyperlink, lists (bullet, number, alpha) |
contributors: series editor(s) - one or more given names, surnames, suffix; organizations as authors - one or more | affiliations: bold italic superscript hyperlink |
notes: disclaimer; generic | bold, italic, hyperlink, |
permissions: copyright, statement, year, license; license: open access, creative commons license type license paragraph/statement | statement: bold, italic, hyperlinks |
Metadata layout
The collection metadata is organised into catergories, one tab for each category as shown here. The modal is accessed on the Collection manager page.
Queries
Please see the attached roughs showing the specific field names required and:
- confirm all fields are correct
- answer questions below (numbers correspond to annotations on the PDF)
- provide a
meta.xml
file showing correct structure of the required fields
Title and publisher
- provide possible values -- or must these be defined in Org template?
- Can print and electronic pub dates have different formats? If so, confirm possible options.
IDs
- what is publisher ID? Are there other possible IDs besides those shown here? If so provide list for Org metadata template
contributors
-
Unclear if Affiliations is one field or many fields with sub-fields:
- address
- country
- label and footnote linked to author/editor (what does this mean?)
- institution
-
Unclear what fields are needed for "Organizations"
-
Is corresponding author relevant?
permissions
- Provide possible options for dropdown
funding information
- Please confirm exactly which fields are relevant at collection level
notes
- Are any other types relevant for collection meta beside disclaimer? You mention "generic" in #142 (closed) -- is this a type or does this mean user needs to create own types that are defined in Org metadata template, or is this a free text field on this page?
custom
- Should types and values to be defined in Org metadata template or be created here, per collection? Are there any types that should show for ALL orgs?
