NCBI review 4 Dec
Hi @lathrops1
The NCBI testing site update is in progress. @John.kopanas will confirm when this is complete.
The documentation for your review is updated in the wiki here.
Since your last testing, this update includes the development of:
- Creating parts (and the associated redesign of the book manager)
- Resolving errors in book components
- Reviewing book components
- Word conversion integration
- Various design improvements and bug fixes as listed in these "NCBI review" closed issues
Testing domains
You have created these domains to test.
- A book with no parts and manual ordering of chapters
cokotestword1
- A book with no parts and one auto ordering choice of chapters
cokotestword2
- A book with parts but no body content in the parts (with manual ordering of chapters)
cokotestword3
- A book with parts and body content in the parts (with one auto ordering choice of chapters)
cokotestword4
NB When testing, this required book metadata must be added before any files are uploaded:
book id: <one of the above IDs>
date of publication: <some valid date>
publisher name: <a valid name>
publisher location: <a valid location>
At the moment this must be added in the metadata modal. When the New book modal design is updated (due to #266 (closed)), these fields will be included to improve the user experience (i.e. users won't need to remember to do this before uploading files).
Please keep in mind the following for your review:
Integration issue
As reported today, there is a Word conversion integration issue, but there is a work-around so your testing doesn't need to be delayed. #281 (closed)
Permissions
Currently role permissions are not fully developed. Everything should be tested as sys admin at this stage, except for the 'Reviewing book components' workflow, For this, your team can test from Editor, Author and Previewer perspective as the radio button options available (Request review, Revise, Approve) differ by role.
Knowns bugs
Knowns bugs are listed here. Keep in mind the bugs related to Book Teams can only be looked at when we have clarity on Word users use cases (#181 (closed)).
Development in progress
Additionally, you will see the following front end dev that is not expected to work yet as the backend implementation is in progress:
- Organization access button on dashboard
- Assigning system admins to an org in 'New Organization' modal and the organizations 'Settings' tab.
- Similarly, when testing the Errors workflow, Users will not be able to @mention Sys admins (due to point 2 above).
- The toggles for 'Accepted Source Submissions' on the organizations 'Settings' tab don't do anything yet. These will affect what a user sees in the New book modal after #266 (closed) development is done.
Moving components between sections (Front/Body/Back)
Currently is it possible to move components between sections using the 'Move' button on the book manager page. This functionality was originally discussed in this thread. Stacy we discussed this week that instead of ignoring the content-type
for subsequent uploads, a better approach is for the user to correct the source file for the rare uses cases where an Editor wants to 'hack' where the component is placed.
We agreed that we wouldn't make this change until after your team had an opportunity to test.
Things to clarity
I have left open one issue (#251 (closed)) of items to clarify post your testing.
