Writing date format in xml by BCMS settings
We have two settings that relate to date formats:
- book publication date format
- year
- year range
- month/year
- day/month/year
- chapter publication date format
- month/year
- day/month/year
According to the BCMS settings here these should affect metadata tagging but I want to confirm exactly what's expected in all use cases.
For chapter-processed books:
- the user chooses the book publication date format and adds the date value in the UI. When BCMS creates the book-meta node as xml to insert into each chapter file and toc.xml, we us the date format selected, following BITS pub-date docs
- the user chooses the publication date format in the UI, the value can come from the file (we parse the converted xml) or the user can add it in the UI. The date format chosen affects
<pub-date>
and date within<pub-history>
. What is the expectation if the format in the file doesn't match the format chosen in the UI? For example if the file has "day/month/year" but user has chosen format "moth/year" should we comment out or delete the value that's not needed?
Similarly, for wholebook the user can currently choose the format in the UI -- is this correct since the date value comes from the file? If yes, then what is the expectation if the format in the file doesn't match the format chosen in the UI?
