Custom TOC features
From #60 (closed)
Additional required features to add to backlog
- Display book component metadata – display “date revised” – see GeneReviews: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK1116/
- Currently users can custom name the date created and date updated wording on TOC – see GeneReview above – date created is called “Initial Posting”
- There can be more than one level of parts (so we need to support multiple levels and how to nest them). See: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK5330/
- Need to support for collections, that may have different / additional issues
This all sounds fine to support in future iterations. @John.kopanas do you agree?
- If we need to add / moderate values for settings in future, we’d like a way for Sys Org to have a way to do so via an Admin page
@lathrops1 What do you mean by 'moderate values'? We have discussed having default setting for the org. I've created a backlog issue in #62 (closed).
@DioneMentis, basically rather than hard code each new custom TOC feature that translates in most cases to:
(1) passing on a PI in the generated TOC OR (2) passing on an attribute setting via some other way (JSON? other) for our integration needs
It would be useful if our Sys Org could have a way to name a custom TOC setting with attribute values that will do one or two above as agreed by your and our developers to handle integration needs.
- Some books / collections have a setting to allow editor to set up new chapters or books as “feature” or “display on new and updated” pages
- There are multiple special PI settings that will need to be supported in addition to skip or repeated new chapters to book or books in collection – we will need to support all by project end, including those that follow:
- Is the book a “hybrid” or just a “one-page document” – meaning there is NO TOC generated, just one page for the document with the metadata and document content. Example: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK549988/
- Is the chapter / book an author manuscript (meaning we do special display for PDF and content). Example: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK541852/
@lathrops1, our team will need to understand these user cases in more detail before committing to their development within the timeframe we have set out in the proposal.
@DioneMentis, all but the first of these use cases are currently supported and must by project end for us to ingest content through this new system. Please se my comments above about one way of imaging how to do this, since in most cases it is aboout passing on a PI or settings with attribute values. Let me know if you'd like to further discuss the uses cases in a call now or later.
