Accessibility feedback on designs
Hi @conneelyb, John, Heidi, Aleeza
Thank you for the informative discussion this week. Here are the screens we looked at in the call and the ones we didn't get to. We've focused on the pages from the editor's perspective.
Dashboard (editor's pov)
Note: the image shown in the call had an export error -- you can now see the bottom bar with bulk actions and pagination. These bulk actions would be used by a handful of people (HHMI Managing and Handing Editors)
We spent some time discussing the dashboard inner page navigation, particularly how a user might 'jump' between the three accordion sections "Authored questions", "To review" and "Editor questions" since once user may have all roles.
After the call we worked on another version of the Dash which meets the same use case but would be better for accessibility.
Question page (editor's pov)
Clicking a question in the Dashboard (either linked question text or whole 'row') opens the question page. The tabs available here are ordered by the steps in the workflow. Bear in mind that the all signed-up users see this tab design, the amount of tabs and functionality available depends on the users role (Author, Reviewer, Production Team). All users will need to move between these tabs frequently and easily.
The question itself with associated metadata
- We briefly discuss the question creator/editor however we'd like to revisit this when we have a prototype of one question type.
- The buttons in the tab bar are the actions the Editor would take to 'move' the question through the workflow. These change according to the questions state, for example, in this state the Editor can choose between: assigning the question to a handling editor (dropdown list of names); not accepting the Author's question or moving to the Review stage.
Chat
The chat functionality is used throughout the app, here the chat is for the question author and editor.
Invite reviewers
The Editor searches for and invites Reviewers on this page.
Reviews
The completed feedback from Reviewers is shown here, as well as chat between the editor and each Reviewer.
Production assignments
Here the production team (copy-editors, illustrators, accessibility checkers) collaborate with the Editor to finalise the question for publishing. They access the question itself (first tab) to complete the tasks assigned to them. When all tasks are complete, the Editor can publish the question.
Based on these screens, in particular we are looking for accessibility feedback on:
- Easily switching between the main tabs
- The design of primary and secondary buttons and their states (active/inactive)
- Icons and alt-text: at the moment there is just the delete bin but there may be other icons used.
- Any other concerns are guidance that's relevant at this stage.
User questionnaire
This displays during sign up process. In particular we'd like your feedback on the error states in the form.
