Broken image replacement
If we upload a doc that is using some kind of image we can't handle (.emf
or .wmf
), currently I'm inserting a base-64 representation of a 1px x 1px white PNG – the end user will see a blank image and theoretically will replace it. It was pointed out that it's smarter to include an actual broken image icon.
Replacing the URL for broken images with something that's obviously a broken link (e.g. <img src="https://broken.image/broken_image.png" />
would theoretically get the browser's default broken image:
However, that kind of broken URL doesn't actually work with Wax's image schema – it turns out you can't actually have a broken image in Wax! I've asked Christos if there's a way around this; but even if there is, there is the risk that a broken image link will mess up PDF export.
My inclination is to insert an actual broken image icon – I don't know if we have one or if we need to make one. It seems like something we should have?
