Comments disappear when annotated text is deleted
Deleting text that has a comment associated with it cause the comment to disappear. This seems logical, but is especially easy to do when the comment is associated with text marked as a tracked deletion: accept the deletion and the comment also disappears.
To reproduce:
- Leave a comment on a word in Wax
- Turn Track Changes on
- Delete a selection that includes the text that the comment annotates. The comment is still visible, because the annotated text is still there (just marked for deletion)
- Accept the deletion, and the annotated text (and thus the comment) disappears.
This can be undone, and the comment reappears, but the editors are especially concerned about this as part of the editing process. Comments from one user to another about changes during editing could well get missed this way.
The easiest fix I see is to throw a warning popup whenever the user deletes text with a comment associated (whether by accepting a deletion or not): "The text you are about to delete has comments associated with it. Deleting the text will delete the associated comments. Are you sure you wish to delete this text?"
Another option is to move the annotation to the closest remaining text, although that seems complex to implement and inelegant.
